paranormal: Term used to describe anomalous or unexplained phenomena.

parapsychology: The study of paranormal psychological phenomena, such as extra-sensory perception and telekenisis.

phantom cats: Large cats that have been spotted in areas unusual for such animals; also known as alien big cats.

poltergeist: A ghost or spirit that makes itself known by moving physical objects.

possession: The state in which a human body is overtaken by supernatural force.

precognition: A phenomenon during which an individual receives information about events before they happen through extra-sensory perception.

Project Blue Book: A 1950s U.S. Air Force study commissioned to examine any potential threat posed by UFOs and to review the evidence collected about UFOs.

pseudoscience: Fields of study, such as astrology, which claim to be scientific and make efforts to look legitimate but doe not follow the scientific method.

psychic: An individual who claims to know or see things normally hidden from the senses through the use of extra-sensory perception.

psychokinesis: Also referred to as telekinesis; an alleged ability to move objects or stop time with one’s mind.

Sasquatch: Also known as Bigfoot; a large mammal who walks on two feet and is covered in hair but has yet to be classified formally by mainstream scientists due to lack of evidence.

séance: A meeting in which people gather to communicate with spirits and ghosts.

second sight: A form of extra-sensory perception in which an individual receives information through visions.

SETI: Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence; a collective of different research groups that monitor frequencies in the atmosphere to look for transmissions from another planet or other life forms.

skeptic: An individual who doubts the validity of ghosts, aliens, clairvoyance and other paranormal activities.

sleep paralysis: A state of sleep in which an individual’s brain has awoken while his body remains asleep. Sleep paralysis often leads to hallucinations, some of which have been used to explain visions of spirits and tales of alien abduction.

supernatural: A term used to describe beings and events that cannot currently be explained by the laws of science.

Sylvia Browne: An American psychic and medium who has risen to celebrity status with her purported predictions and messages from the dead.
